Product Information And Review For The Intellitouch PT1 Clip-on Chromatic Tuner

The Intellitouch PT1 is a beautifully conceived, well designed tuner that does not use sound but vibration to tune an instrument. It connects to the headstock of the electric or acoustic guitar/bass etc. via a small, neat clamp and can be left in position and swivelled out when required. It makes no difference whether the instrument is amplified or not.

The whole Intellitouch PT1 package has a quality feel about it from the moment you open the box. Made by The Onboard Research Corporation in USA, the first thing you discover is a soft carrying case with a hard insert, affording the contents plenty of protection against heavy hands.

On examining the PT1 tuner, again the quality is the first thing that becomes apparent. The well designed sliding clip connects it securely to the top of the guitar headstock, or the bridge of a cello or almost any stringed instrument including mandolin, bass guitar or banjo. When you switch it on there is a subtle backlight that lets you see in a darkened environment, yet is hardly visible in a brighter situation.

This little gem of a tuner comes into its own in a noisy environment when, maybe several instruments are being tuned at once. The Intellitouch PT1 will not be confused. As it only responds to the instrument to which it is connected it will not hear anything but your instrument.

The controls on the Intellitouch PT1 could not be simpler. Press 'On' and the tuner automatically springs into action. The note being tuned is displayed on the screen and arrows either side let you know if it needs raising or lowering in pitch. Absolute simplicity with infinite accuracy!

By pressing the 'mode' button several extra features become available. The 'learn' mode allows tuning reference to any pitch required. For example, tuning to an out-of-tune piano. The reference pitch will be stored and all other strings will be correctly adjusted to this. This information can be stored in the PT1's memory even when it is turned off.

The Intellitouch PT1 is a chromatic tuner which means it can tune any instrument with standard or alternate tunings.

Another feature that many guitarists forget is the ability to check intonation at the 12th fret (octave) with the tuner. If the open string is in tune but the 12th fret is flat, then the bridge saddle for that string needs to be moved back towards the tail of the guitar. If the note is sharp, the saddle needs moving forward towards the neck.
